Former Vice President Al Gore’s ex-wife will be a special guest at a June fundraiser hosted by anti-vaccine Democratic donors, The Washington Free Beacon reports.
Tipper Gore will attend a June 8 fundraiser to support of Kathleen Murphy, a candidate for Virginia’s House of Delegates. The fundraiser is being hosted at the home of Al and Claire Dwoskin in McLean, Va, according to an invitation obtained by the Free Beacon and published Tuesday. Tickets cost $250 and $2,500 to attend the fundraiser.
Al Dwoskin is the president and CEO of his own real estate development and management firm and the couple are major Democratic donors who support Bill and Hillary Clinton. The couple also runs a charitable foundation, which claimed ” there may be links between increased cases of reported autism and childhood vaccinations.”
The Dwoskin Family Foundation claimed “gaps in the knowledge about the biological and genetic risk factors for vaccine induced brain and immune dysfunction” exist, according to The Daily Beast. The paper described the Dwoskins as “vaccination skeptics” who run a charitable foundation that “is just one in a series of anti-vaxx projects that the wealthy couple bankrolls.”
The Dwoskin founded and funded the Child Medical Safety Research Institute (CMSRI), an organization dedicated specifically to create anti-vaccine research.
Scientists have repeatedly debunked CMSRI’s claims, noting in a study by the Food and Drug Administration that alleged risks from vaccines are “extremely low.”
The Dwoskins aren’t the first Democrats to deny the science on vaccines. When running for President in 2008, Barack Obama suggested that vaccinations and autism could be linked and called scientific research on the topic “inconclusive.”
