, former Bihar Chief Minister and Rashtriya Janata Dal chief, turned 70 on Sunday. While celebrating his birthday with supporters, Lalu said he may have turned 70 but he is still young to defeat “communal forces” in the country, according to a report by Hindi Daily Prabhat Khabar. Lalu celebrated his birthday with family, supporters. Several top leaders including Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Congress president Sonia Gandhi and others wished Yadav on his 70th birthday.

In the presence of Kumar and his son as well as Deputy Bihar CM Tejashwi Yadav, Lalu dedicated two bridges on river Ganga to people of Bihar on Sunday. Earlier, Kumar had visited 10, Circular Road, where the RJD supremo lives in the official residence alloted to his wife Rabri Devi, and the two embraced each other. The Bihar CM also praised Lalu for his contributions to the state. Talking to reporters, Kumar said, “Lalu Prasad has made notable contributions to Bihar politics and our society.”

Lalu also made his wish to see a Grand Alliance government at the Centre in 2019 clear. “Delhi will now see the leadership of mahagathbandhan. All coalition partners should start preparations,” Lalu tweeted after Bihar Congress chief and state education minister Ashok Chaudhary wished him. The RJD supremo also reminded Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee that they stood in solidarity for the “great cause ahead” after she extended greetings to him.

Lalu also rubbished reported bickering among Bihar Grand Alliance partners (RJD, JD(U) and Congress) in the last few months. Responding to a tweet by a media house on Monday, Lalu said, “Bickering is in media studios for TRP not in our alliance.”

For many members of Opposition parties, a Bihar-like ‘mahagathbandhan’ (grand alliance) appears to be the only way to stop the BJP at the Centre in 2019 General elections.

On the occasion, Lalu cut a 70-pound cake at his residence in the presence of his wife, Chaudhary and a number of Bihar ministers, leaders and workers of the RJD and other allies of the grand alliance.
