Cheryl has told her close friends and family that she is expecting her first child.

The former Girls Aloud singer was spotted with boyfriend Liam Payne last night showing off a bump as they attended the Fayre of St James Christmas Carol Concert.

After social media went into meltdown over the news, a source has revealed that while the star’s family have been told about the news, she has "no plans" to announce it publicly.

“Cheryl has told close friends and family the very exciting news that she is expecting her first child," said an insider.

“She is absolutely ecstatic. It’s something she has been trying for for years."

“She doesn’t want to speak publicly about it for a number of reasons, particularly due to some of the battles she has gone through in her personal life in recent years.

“The fact is she has wanted a child desperately for so long and at one point it looked like it would never come," the source added to The Sun.

Cheryl stunned last night, looking as glamorous as ever in khaki dress clinging to her figure while she left her black coat unfastened, putting her bump on display.

Cheryl – who has kept her figure hidden at some recent events – didn’t shy away from pictures at the star-studded bash, which was raising money for Cheryl’s Trust.

She was snapped beaming next to singer Olly Murs, who looked cheery as he posed with his friend.

The two lovebirds are yet to publicly confirm or deny the rumours – which have been the talk of the celebrity circuit for a while now.

One person who has had enough of playing guessing games is presenter Lorraine , who asked out loud what we’ve all been thinking during her show on Tuesday morning .

The straight talking Scottish host said: “Has she still not confirmed whether or not she’s pregnant?”

She went on: “Why don’t they? It’s not exactly something you can hide”.

Bearded Liam Payne looks tired and dishevelled as he pops to the shops without Cheryl

Before moving on – with a very appropriate turn of phrase: “Because, well, it will probably come out”.

A mother-of-one herself, Lorraine was sympathetic to a point, saying: “You understand it until a certain time. But once you’re over three and a half, four months you’d think you would, because hopefully all goes well”.

It comes after X Factor choreographer extraordinare Brian Friedman has seemingly confirmed Cheryl’s pregnancy, saying that he’s happy for them.

The creative director of the hit ITV talent show told new! magazine it’s "fantastic" that Cheryl, 33, and her 23-year-old partner have found each other.

"Everyone wants to be in love, everyone wants to be happy. And now they’re having a baby together, so they definitely found something great," he gushed.

Cheryl first came to fame as a member of Girls Aloud, who were put together by Popstars: The Rivals in 2002.

Eight years later, Liam was introduced to Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan and Zayn Malik – and One Direction was born thanks to The X Factor .

Cheryl was a judge on the talent show when they came third in 2010, although she never mentored her future boyfriend.
